Susan's is the place to come for one of the largest collections of local gifts, art and "up-cycled" stuff in Gore Bay. Susan Garlock brings together more than half a dozen local artists and craftspeople under one roof. You'll find Manitoulin-made skin care products, teas, woodwork, photography, paintings, pottery and more. Ms. Garlock's own specialty is hand-made, etched glassware. Susan's is one of a handful of new town businesses. It's located in the old credit union building, just south of the main parking lot in town. Call 705-370-0981 for info. Open 11AM to 5PM Wednesday to Sunday before July 1, and 10AM to every day after July 1.
Antiques, collectibles & toys. That's what you'll find in two brand new shops that share the freshly-refurbished Stedman's building, right next to the post office. Twice as Nice (705-282-1111) offers a tasteful collection of antiques. Whether you're into old jewellery, glassware, classic radios or furniture, this stores is a time machine.
On the other side of the same building you'll find Stepping Stone Toys (705-282-1010) and there's one big reason to visit: This place has some great stuff. There are many toy stores in the world, but few sell really truly toys for kids. You'll be impressed by the collection here. The classic stonework on the building that houses these shops has been very skillfully redone this spring by expert mason Alain Desaulniers and Malcolm Noland.
