Need A drug store? A Doctor? A massage? A ChiroprACTOR?

  • Central Pharmacy: Owned and operated by Kidane & Almaz Gebrekristose. Originally from Eritrea, they came  to Gore Bay in 1986. This is one of Gore Bay's two full-service pharmacies and you won't find a friendlier bunch of people. Kidane is always behind the prescription counter at the back, and he always has a big smile.  Central also offers a first-rate copy & photo printing service, and computer supplies, too. Call 705-282-2409.
  • Robertson's IDA: Owned and operated by Carol Robertson who traces her roots back to one of the original pioneer families on western Manitoulin, Robertson's IDA offers a full pharmacy counter, along with everything else you'll find in a big city drug store. In 2013, Carol expanded the back of her shop to include stationery and household items. Follow the white footsteps on the floor of the store to check out this new back section. Call 705-282-2147.

  • Sue's Snip & Clip: Owned and operated by Sue Cranston, this is a great small-town hair shop for women, men and kids. Sue and her team offer all the fancy treatments for hair you'd expect at a salon, plus good, old-fashioned haircuts. Appointments are a good idea, but not always necessary. If you're walking past Sue's shop and feel like stopping in, go ahead. She'll fit you in if she can. You can also give her a call at 705-282-1485 to see if she has room before walking up from the docks.

Massage Studio:

  • Jaguar Spirit Massage Studio: Boaters love this place. Brenda & Sofia Brizuela are originally from El Salvador, and they opened Jaguar Spirit in 2009. These sisters offer a chance to pamper yourself in a way that you won't find in most other small towns. Try their warm-oil head massage, Thai massage, an aroma facial, reflexology or reiki treatments.  Something called the "mapaw massage" is their signature experience. Just stepping inside the studio you'll sense how classy and relaxing it is. Call 705-282-8686 for an appointment, or check things out at

Medical Centre:

  • Gore Bay Medical Centre:

Ask anyone on western Manitoulin, and they'll tell you how lucky we are to have a great medical centre right in Gore Bay. They don't exactly do heart transplants there, but doctors are available to do many things by appointment at 705-282-2262, or 705-282-2007 after hours. Call 911 for emergencies.

At the heart of the clinic are three doctors living in town: Dr. Robert Hamilton (we call him Dr. Bob) and Dr. Sheila McRae have been a married medical team in Gore Bay since 1982. You can often see them walking between the medical centre and home in the mornings, at lunch time and afternoons.

Chantelle Wilson has been a much-loved addition to the permanent Gore Bay medical team since in 2004. Chantelle and husband Mike Zigel have put down roots in town, they're raising kids and they both add a lot to the community.

Just because you're away from home, doesn't mean you need to miss your time with a chiropractor. We've got one right here in town.

Her name is Dr. Sonja Kahkonen and she's ready to serve you. Make your way up Dawson Street from the south end of the docks, then turn right at the courthouse.  Walk north along Phipps Street and you'll see Sonja's sign on the left. She works from her house right there. Call ahead, just to make sure: 705-282-1332.

If some rough weather has left your back feeling worse for the wear, no need to head back out on the North Channel without a little tune up.
